My oldest nephews, young men of fine, upstanding character, have recently married two of the most wonderful young women a family could ever hope to acquire. That is, each nephew married one woman, for a total of two nieces-in-law. Not nephews marrying two women apiece! Just to be clear.
I blame my mistake fully on my sister-in-law Karen, who, after I had given birth to the only female Roth grandchild, teased me with this message on the nurse's white board: "Ha, ha, you may have a daughter, but you still don't have a niece." I believe that message sunk so deep into my psyche that I only now fully grasped that she is wrong!! Thanks to her handsome sons, I've got two terrific nieces.
So to Melissa and Kali - wherever you are - I send a heartfelt apology! I hate to think of you reading that post thinking, "Sure Jen, I see how it is!!" I love you, think you're great, and I'm completely glad you're in the family. I will never again, barring stupidity, make a statement about having no nieces!
And because it's late, I'll give you all a bonus thought tonight. Remember the rule, "i before e, except after c, and in words such as neighbor and weigh." Well, try typing "nieces" many times late at night!! Six times I got it wrong because the "c" in niece made me think I needed the "e" first. So six times in the last ten minutes I had to stop and go, ". . . except AFTER c, and this is before the c, so I need the i first. . . . "
Goodnight - Jen :)
:) You're the greatest!
