A glimpse

I caught a glimpse of the miracle today. Sitting by a warm window at a Burger King in Portland, watching my three kids play on one of the biggest indoor play structures I've seen, two blue shirts and one brown flashed in front of me. And I saw it, a glimpse of the miracle. The miracle of life and kids and family. Josiah in the lead, Abby in the middle, Titus bringing up the rear. Two protective brothers leading, helping, guarding, and one strong, secure, joyful, adventurous little sister exploring the slides, tubes, tunnels, ramps and "boxing rooms" together.

Kids screaming everywhere, three big boys chasing the little girls (I heard three of them return to their moms and complain about the big boys who were scaring them) One mom reading a book with earplugs in. One mom on her laptop. Two friends chatting as their kids played. A couple having a quiet lunch together.

And one miracle threesome in their own little world: up, down, around, through - playing together, with no fighting, watching out for each other, helping each other, being a team. May this miracle unfold in the years to come, and may these three be the best of friends through thick and thin.

  1. Sometimes when I experience moments like that with my kids, I just want to breath it in . . . with my eyes, ears, hands . . . I want to make that moment a memory that is so real. You know what I mean?
