Hi again - one more little story I wanted to tell - because it gives glory to God - and it speaks of His infinite interest in our lives. His great love and care and presence.
Abby is so little that when she went to get her blood drawn, they could not get a vein in her arm or hand - so they called the IV therapy specialist from the pediatric floor, and she came down. So 3:15 found us in a small lab room, Jeff holding one arm and leg, me holding the other arm and leg, the lab tech holding Abby's head, and the IV therapist drawing blood from a vein in Abby's head. No one in the room was enjoying themselves.
I had heard the tech say that they needed 4 somethings (cc's, mls, ? some unit of measurement) of blood. I was watching the IV therapist as she collected the blood. I could see the tube it was running into and I could see the number 4 - our goal. I could also see that the blood was not flowing. She had about an 1/8th of what she needed. Jeff was comforting Abby as best he could and had quoted the first part of the 23rd Psalm. I was looking from Abby's eyes to the little tube marked with a 4 and I was beginning to feel desperate. So I closed my eyes and prayed silently, "LORD, please let the blood flow. Please let her get all she needs so she doesn't have to poke Abby again." Then I looked into Abby's eyes again - and by the time I looked back at the tube marked with a 4, it was filled up to the 3 and flowing quickly to 4.
Praise the LORD!! And, because Jeff had been bold enough to pray out loud, one of the women said, "it was that prayer," and the other one said, "yeah, because prayer changes things." And then I said, "and I was praying too" and the IV Therapist said, "And I appreciate it!" So we all stood there and had this moment of giving credit to God for an ordinary, mundane, miraculous 4 "somethings" of blood.
Love to all of you - lift up your somethings to the LORD - He Cares for You.
Jen :)
